At Lens of Hope, we are always inspired by the creativity and generosity of our community. This year, Holy Rosary School, Edenvale, South Africa has taken that spirit to heart by launching an ambitious campaign to collect 8,500 spectacle frames in support of our mission to make eye care more accessible across South Africa.
The school has aligned its campaign with World Sight Day, an international day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of eye health and vision care. Their efforts highlight how small actions — like donating an old pair of glasses — can have a profound impact on someone’s life.
With the support of Jetline Print on Demand, Holy Rosary has created 100 custom collection boxes featuring both the school’s badge and the Lens of Hope logo. These boxes will be distributed not only within the school but also across neighbouring schools, businesses, and even Catholic churches affiliated with Holy Rosary. In a powerful show of community partnership, Jetline has also generously offered to make their branches nationwide available as official drop-off points for the campaign.
Already, the initiative has seen wonderful contributions, including the donation of 150 brand-new spectacle cases. Spearheaded by the school’s Outreach Co-ordinator, Yvette Bibis, and supported wholeheartedly by her colleagues, the campaign is a shining example of how young people and their communities can rally together to create lasting change.
“Perhaps our girls could do presentations to other schools, and we could challenge them also to put collection boxes out,” suggested Holy Rosary Primary School Principal, Natalie Meerholz , during early planning. This spirit of collaboration and outreach has made the campaign an inspiring movement that extends beyond Holy Rosary School.
Reflecting on the partnership, Athi-Zilungile Adonis , founder of Lens of Hope, shared:
“It is truly heartwarming to see young people leading the way in making a difference. Holy Rosary’s initiative embodies the spirit of World Sight Day — showing that when we come together as a community, we can break down barriers to eye care and give the gift of clear vision. We are deeply grateful for their commitment and the incredible ripple effect this campaign is creating.”
At Lens of Hope, we are deeply grateful to Holy Rosary School, Jetline Printers, and everyone contributing to this campaign. Together, we are proving that when communities unite, even the most ambitious goals become possible.
This World Sight Day, join us in celebrating their vision and commitment — because clear sight means a brighter future for all.
